Type Of Cosmetic Registration Applications: Fresh Registration, Endorsement And Renewal

Cosmetic marketing in India is increasing rapidly, ranging from the first look on the television advertisement to a social media platform. A large number of people are into cosmetic marketing as it is probably one of the sectors that will never go into recession. People across the world use cosmetics no matter whether male or female. The cosmetic industry caters to all genders. But with the increasing demand and popularity, the cosmetic industry came under the radar of the government because of its increasing popularity as well as a scope for baseless claims made by manufacturing companies.

At present, Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940, rules the cosmetic registration in India that defines the word cosmetic as any article that intends to be, sprayed, poured, rubbed or sprinkled in any human body parts for the purpose of cleansing, promoting, beautifying or for changing the appearance and also involves any article that is intended to be used as a cosmetic component.

Different kind of cosmetic registrations in India

The most important question that comes to mind is what type of registration or license you require for your cosmetic business. Have a look at two types of cosmetic product registration in India:

  • The registration required for manufacturers for cosmetics is needed when you want to manufacture a product that falls under the definition of cosmetics. The license can be applied using form no 32 for the purpose of manufacturing cosmetics either for sale or for distribution. The license in form no-32 A is given for loan license for manufacturing cosmetics for sale or distribution. Then the license using form 37 is given for permission or renewing the approval for doing tests on cosmetics or the ingredients used in the manufacture of cosmetics.
  • Registration needed for importing cosmetics is the other type of cosmetics registration. It is needed when you do not manufacture the cosmetics but import and resale it in India.

The licensing authority, before issuing the license must do a complete inspection of the entire premises where the operation is carried out. The respective officer should submit a complete report to the authority who in turn will decide whether to grant a license or not.

Now there are some other scenarios as well for cosmetics businesses. Like:

  • Endorsement: When any company already holds a valid form 43 and wishes to add some more products to it or additional pack sizes for already registered products, then it has to apply for an endorsement using form no 43.
  • Renewal: The form43 that is issued by CDSCO has a validity of 3 years and all applicants are needed to renew their licenses using this form before it expires for continuing the business.
